Bud Industries NEMA Enclosure Videos are a Hit

Nowhere is a picture better at telling a story than in describing Bud’s IP and NEMA plastic Boxes.  Even better is a video and we have just updated our videos on the popular NBF and PN series boxes.  While in the prior version, we just described the product features, in this version, we show each box being hit with a powerful water spray.  While this is not an official UL test, it replicates a bit of the process that UL went through to certify these to the NEMA 4x standard.  It is also similar to the test that TUV performed to certify their IP66 and IP65 ratings respectively

Bud Industries’ PTQ Series – A great value in the most durable NEMA rated Electronic Enclosure

The PTQ series of plastic IP and NEMA rated electronic enclosure is one of Bud’s newest and most durable product lines.  In fact, if you check out the video, you can even see how it holds up when a car drives over it.  While that is not something that we recommend in daily use, the thinking is that if it can withstand that external pressure and weight, then it should provide superior protection for any electronic components.  The secret to its strength is a unique blend of polycarbonate and glass fibers.  With 10% fiber resin, it has the benefit of the flexibility and strength of polycarbonate with the added strength of the glass fibers.   If there is much more than 10% fiber, then the enclosure is more susceptible to cracking or shattering if hit.  They are UL508 NEMA 4x, and what makes these even more impressive is that they are rated at IP67 which means they can even be submerged for short amounts of time making them ideal for almost any application whether inside or out.

Bud’s Extruded Enclosure Offers Maximum Versatility

exn%20collection

Today, new products drive our industry. With enclosures, while the technology is often unchanged, the visuals demand updating on a regular basis. For customers, as they introduce new designs, they look for more than functionality in an enclosure, but also a sense of style that will distinguish their product. In response to these trends, Bud has introduced a new extruded box line, the EXN, that has it all, great price, a variety of styles and colors, light weight, and a broad range of applications.

The EXN is made from extruded aluminum and comes in an incredible 17 sizes ranging from 2.7 x 1.4 x 2 to 7 x 2.25 x 8.   Each size comes in 5 anodized colors (black, blue, silver, red, and gold) and each color comes with two types of endcaps, die cast aluminum and plastic. The grooved design has two advantages, it assists in heat removal and it allows for optional pc boards to slide into place. Also unique to Bud, the gaskets that quickly pop into place, seals the boxes to an impressive level of IP66. The top is recessed to allow for labeling or printing. Their design also allows for easy modifications which Bud can do as a part of our industry leading 5 day modification program. Contact your local Bud Distributor for more information on these versatile products.

2015 – A Great Year for Bud Industries and Our Enclosure Customers

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As 2015 wraps to a close, it has to go into the record books as one of the most unusual. From politics (remember that Scott Walker was the favorite for the Republican nod early in the year) to the weather (remember the Polar Vortex as now the East Coast is basking in record heat?), nothing seemed to go as projected. Therefore, it is with pride that we note that Bud continues to be as consistent as ever. As we celebrated our 87th year in business, we have bucked the trend with double digit growth and increased market share. Why do we think this happened? There have been a number of good reasons:

  1. We have had an aggressive new product introduction program this year.  From many new sizes and styles of NEMA 4x plastic boxes to high end extruded pc enclosures, from snap together utility boxes to explosion proof boxes we have led the market in pushing into new industries and broadening our base
  2. We have upgraded some of our best sellers.  A great example is our AN die cast NEMA enclosure which are now rated IP68, suitable for submerging for extended periods of time.
  3. We continue to lead the industry in our modification capabilities and lead time.  Our five day turnaround on most modified boxes helps us serve the customer as quickly as their local job shop with higher quality and more consistency.  On all significant quotations, we booked more than 1/3, which includes many that did not get funded

Discover Bud Enclosure’s Interstellar Level of Component Protection

464460main_s66-24478_full[2]

Between the new discoveries of water movement on Mars, and the Matt Damon movie, the Maritan, space and space travel is in the news. It is probably little known that Bud Industries played a small but important role in early space flight. For those old enough to remember, the astronauts carried with them a large metal box, its use was classified and we never learned exactly what it did. We thought it might have to do with generating oxygen or temperature controls for the space suit.  Bud manufactured these boxes to their exacting standards and did so for nearly a decade until they were no longer required. In the intervening years, Bud has provided NASA products for a variety of applications, mostly involved in research and testing.

Today, Bud quality is internationally known particularly for products that protect components in harsh environments. While we have not tested our products on Mars, we have tested them under a variety of extreme weather conditions. One of our customers for our PN series of NEMA and IP rated plastic boxes deploys them in the Arctic Circle as part of a monitoring system. Having to deal with not only the extreme temperatures, but also moisture and wind create a challenge that we have successful met for years. Their boxes have worked flawlessly and the only modification has been that we have sent them updated gaskets as they have evolved to insure that they have the best possible product. While your applications may not be in space or at the North Pole, discover the protection that Bud can provide for all of your component needs.

Discover Bud’s PN Series NEMA Enclosure and Elect it as your Favorite

PN clear lid - MB

Regardless of your politics, Cleveland, the home of Bud Industries, was proud to host the first Republican debate last week. It was a great chance for the city to show off its resurgence, impress the attendees with our outstanding restaurant and arts scene, and display the natural beauty of the city and its extensive lakefront. It was an exciting tryout for next summer when we host the Republican Convention. For many, it was their first exposure to this area and they discovered that Donald Trump was not the only exciting part about these debates.

To us, there is not debate that many of our customers have discovered that Bud is the resource for their NEMA enclosures. An example is our PN series, long the backbone of our NEMA product offering. These polycarbonate boxes provide the ultimate in protection (NEMA 4x, IP66) that allows for the product to be used in almost any environment and still be able to perform. We have deployed these units in climates as diverse as Alaska and the South Pole to the factory floor here in Cleveland. They are durable, simple to use and provide the type of flexibility that any customer requires. With internal mounting bosses, wall mount capabilities, and optional clear covers, the engineer has a plethora of applications that fit this box. Read More >>

Bud Industries to Introduce Exciting New Fiberglass Enclosure at EDS

PTQ11059c

When the calendar turns to May, all eyes at Bud turn to the Electronic Distribution Show and conference in Las Vegas. We have participated in this show and its predecessors almost since its inception as the May Parts Show in Chicago. It has gone from a show where manufacturers of electronic components meet with their distributors to discuss inventory and work to build orders (after negotiated discounts) to one where mutual marketing and end customers are the focus as a mid-year check on sales and also a chance to promote the newest products. It is also a great place to take the pulse of the sales trends in the industry and to learn the newest concerns and opportunities. The show is packed with meetings as we at Bud meet with a different distributor every hour, sometimes two at a time in separate rooms.

This year, we are very excited about our broad new product offerings that are being introduced at the show. The leading product is a Fiberglass enclosure, the PTQ series. Available in 10 sizes and with either an opaque or clear cover, this IP67 NEMA 4 and 6 box is a great value in providing top protection in even the most challenging environments including periodic submersion. Best of all, the fiberglass content is only 10% which provides an ideal balance between tight tolerances and the flexibility of polycarbonate while maintaining a high quality finish. Read More >>

Discovering Bud Industries’ Steel NEMA Enclosures

nema-4-enclosures-snbss

When I think of the word discovery, the name that jumps into my mind is NASA. While today they are thought of for the research done on Saturn’s rings, or the proposed manned trips to Mars, for some of us, NASA will always be tied to the lunar missions of the 60’s, leading up to the first lunar landing in 1969. We, at Bud, were proud to have been a part of the NASA family, supplying products that ranged from the early control desks to enclosures that were carried by the astronauts encasing key equipment. For us, it was not only a technological achievement but also an indicator of our diverse capabilities and offerings. We are still a valued NASA supplier today.

Much as NASA is all about discovery, our customers are always discovering new products and opportunities as here at Bud we have the enclosure to fit their needs. Many know us for a specific segment of our product line, such as large 19” cabinet racks, but are unaware of the significant increases in NEMA steel enclosures that have become an important part of our offering. These IP66 enclosures come both in standard and stainless steel and provide a cost effective solution to your needs for a protected component. Customers in fields as diverse as automation controls, medical, oil and gas, and transportation have discovered the value of these Bud steel cabinets. With great features, and with Bud’s rapid modification program (often as little as 5 days), large local stock and amazing pricing, create your own discoveries using this or other Bud boxes and cabinets.

Bud Fiberglass Enclosures Don’t Deflate (sorry Belichick)

PIP Series

While the sports world is abuzz over whether Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, or a mysterious stranger ordered the Patriot’s footballs to be somewhat deflated, deflation, or shrinkage, is also an issue with plastic enclosures. Polycarbonate, while very durable and damage resistant, has a tendency to shrink slightly as it cools, as do most plastics. However, there can be inconsistencies in the shrinkage process meaning that both draft angles of the sides and actual box dimensions can vary slightly from box to box. For most applications, this is not an issue as the variation is slight and the impact on equipment or boards being installed in the box are minimal. It can become an issue as holes are drilled in the sides and the draft angles may be slightly varied. When installing the connectors, they may not thread on a complete horizontal and unless the gasketing on the connector allows for this, there can be gaps in the protection.

Bud’s PIP Series is a polycarbonate box that also includes 10% fiberglass.  This provides for virtually no shrinkage in the cooling process, creating a more consistent box.  It also provides the “toughness” and UV protection of fiberglass yet still retains the visual appeal of polycarbonate.  It is  a UL508 Nema 4x rated IP67 enclosure which means that it is not only able to withstand water sprays but can be submerged as well.  All of this is available at a price that is below many competitive polycarbonate boxes.  Contact Bud Industries (saleswest@budind.com)  or your local Bud distributor for more details.  However the science of the Patriots deflated football evolves, rest assured that Bud Industries has solved the problem for plastic enclosures
